Dande Festival Tanki Leendert 2019

Children and Youth Categories

Centro di Bario Tanki Leendert is a Non-Governmental Organization with it’s purpose to set-up cultural, educational a recreative programs for people of al ages.

People like Edjean Semeleer of Go Cultura Foundation, Ray-anne Hernandez of UNOCA and Harry Croes has been explaining much Aruba’s traditional Dande. There are different versions of the origins of Dande as to where and when it all has started. Since there isn’t much written nor recorded from the beginning the origins remain vague and the different stories are only confusing. The committee at the Centro di Bario Brazil with the support of UNOCA have been organizing a Dande festival for children and youth participants to encourage the younger generations to uphold this tradition. Already the Children’s and Youth Dande Festival has produced Dande musicians and singers that now participate in tthe adult category of Dande Festivals.

On the 29th of December , 2019 five musical groups gave their Dande performance accompanying a total of twenty-two participants in four different age categories. Ages from 4 to 6, 7 to 9, 10 to 12, and 13 to 17 years. The bands were ‘Zonido di Antaño’, ‘Aiwalos, ‘Tipico Ambiente’, ‘Tipico Sabor Crioyo’ and ‘Alma Folklorico’.
