Royal Carnival Group
Kevin James is the leader of the ‘Royal Carnival Group’ which was born out of the ‘N.B.O.’ musical band that is owned by Kevin himself. ‘Royal Carnival Group’ is a relatively ‘young’ group with a strong inclination towards luxury. Already with their first participation in 2011 the group won the highest nomination of the ‘Carnival Group of the Year 2011’ and retaining this title in 2012.
The group didn’t qualify for this much desired nomination in 2013 though but they are always determined to show their best and going for highest title in Carnival. Kevin states that much more attention should be invested in the Children’s Carnival Groups. In Kevin’s opinion the children are our future (‘Nos Futuro’) in Carnival and likewise the youth should also be more involved in our celebration. In general the youth in isn’t that much interested in participating with the children’s parades considering that they have outgrown that phase. Then there is a participation gap caused by the rules that doesn’t allow participation to the youth age category in the Grand Parades, alongside with adults.
A ‘Carnival Youth Parade’ might be a solution to bridge this participation age gap between the Children’s- and Grand Parade. Another way might be that Carnival groups organize their own youth sections within the Grand Parade with specific rules and regulations for the youth. To Kevin Carnival in Aruba is very important and he’s convinced that Carnival should be integrated in curricula at school in subject-matters like history, culture and art.
